Food Distribution Research Society Holds Successful 65th Annual Conference in Puerto Rico
The Food Distribution Research Society (FDRS) recently held its 65th Annual Conference in beautiful Puerto Rico. The conference, themed “Resilient AgriFood Systems”, brought together researchers, educators, and industry professionals from across the globe to discuss the latest research and advancements in food distribution.
The conference featured a variety of engaging and informative sessions, including:

Symposia: Two in-depth symposia delved into critical topics shaping the future of food distribution. The first, “Creating Resilient Food Systems Through the Non-Contiguous Regional Food Business Center,” explored strategies for strengthening food systems in diverse regions, with a particular focus on the Virgin Islands. The second symposium, “Asking Better Questions About Scaling Technology in Food and Agriculture Industries,” fostered a dynamic discussion on the responsible and effective integration of technology in the food and agriculture sectors.

Research Reports and Updates: A wide range of research reports and updates provided attendees with insights into the latest research findings and emerging trends. Topics covered included:
- Consumer Preferences: Researchers explored consumer attitudes and purchase behaviors related to various food products, including local and organic produce, dairy products, and specialty crops.
- Agricultural Supply Chains: Experts examined the economic and social implications of agricultural supply chains, with a focus on sustainability, resilience, and the long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Food Safety: Researchers presented findings on food safety issues, including foodborne outbreaks, product recalls, and the effectiveness of food safety training programs.
- Specialty Crops and Marketing: Researchers shared insights into the production, marketing, and consumer preferences for specialty crops, such as heritage crops and watermelons.

The conference also included a Student Marketing Challenge, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity.
